I set up the club  in March 2004 as didn't know anyone locally, except for family members, to play the game with. I started out with posting a thread on   chippingnorton.net   message board to see if anyone wanted a local club. I had a few responses to that and we met up soon after in a pub in town to play and have drinks. After a couple of meet ups, it was decided that a pub was too smokey for everyone and that we would take turns to meet at our homes instead. We meet on the penultimate or last Thursday of each month at each others houses (all currently within about 5 miles radius of the town). I joined the Association of British Scrabble Players ( www.absp.org.uk ) and  as there were non previously for this area, ours became the Chipping Norton Scrabble Club. Currently the group is just seven women, but it is open to men to come along as well. Im the youngest in my early 30s and the other women range from their 40s to 70s. However, any age, whether younger or older are very welcome to come along and we all have a good laugh and get on well! We start at 8pm, and play roughly a game an hour, ending the night at 10 or 11pm. We are not a competitive club and don't play against a timer but try to take our turns relatively quickly.   We usually play in two's and three's depending on whether we all come along each month. After each game we tend to just move round one place clockwise, so we don't play with the same people all night. We score on average around 200 points each (give or take)  in a game of three of us for example.  But if you're a novice to Scrabble don't be afraid to come along and try us out, and likewise if you're much better than us, please come along, we can maybe learn more tips from you. Don't worry if you do not have a Scrabble set or word book of your own, as at the moment we have more than enough sets between us for more to play too.
