LETS stands for Local Exchange Trading Scheme. The Fourshires Group has over 40 members from North Oxfordshire, East Gloucestershire and South Warwickshire. We use stones as a notional currency possibly from the Four Shires Stone or the Rollright Stones. In Oxford they have spokes and in Bath buns, but neither pebbles nor pieces of wire nor currant buns pass hands only points on paper, to create a non-profit barter system. What is bartered Anything from goods such as plants, honey or furniture to services such as lawn mowing, dog walking, baby sitting, decorating or repairs. Monthy meetings in a variety of pubs across the area, and a quarterly Newsletter keep members in touch, along with social events like BBQs and picnics. The more people you know the more trading you do; and the joy is you can be in debt (commitment) with no Bank Manager on your back! All members have a Directory of offers and wants, so if you want a lift somewhere or a trip to the tip just look up Transport or Use of Van/Trailer and your problem is solved. Each transaction is amicably agreed between parties sterling is not ignored, but rarely used. The Tax man is NOT interested but if YOU are interested contact a Chipping Norton member Heather Leonard on or Ann & David Morton . |
