The Chipping Norton Games

Pictured below are just a few of the activities which were going on all over town on Saturday. Twenty people were booked in for Archery at the Leisure Centre and being coached by members of the Windrush Bowmen. Inside the centre, badminton and swimming were in full flow. The soccatots went to have their faces painted after their game. The 11 o'clock Health Walk was busy. At lunch time there were fewer takers - but Rob Evans had a go. (Apparently the walk was along Walterbush Road!) At Highlands Roly was teaching Croquet to a constant stream of people ably assisted by Eve Coles. Up at the golf course the assistant professional and the club captain were welcoming whole families on to the putting and practice greens. The Mayor had an intensive lesson about keeping her eye on the ball. At the Bowls Club Bob Ellis was teaching local youngsters the tricks of his trade. Earlier there had been coaching for about twenty young people at the Football Club. Tug of War was scheduled for later but it seemed as if someone had pinched John Kench's rope so the event was in some doubt! Swimming the Channel at the Lido was going to finish off a hectic day. There would be more events on Sunday. Congratulations to Gina who had put this whole tapestry of activities together and was a genial master of ceremonies for the proceedings on Saturday. Well done and thanks from us all.
