DERMOT MORRIS BEM
1929-2005

The funeral of Dermot Morris took place on Thursday, 10th November.

Dermot was a Chippy man, born and bred, and was very proud of that fact. He was well known in recent years as the curator of our local museum, a post he took on temporarily in 2001. Dermot started his working life with the Co-op and continued with them after being demobilised from the R.A.F. He later joined Smiths Industries at Witney, working there until 1984, whilst also being a retained fire fighter at Chipping Norton. He then joined the County Fire Service as a civilian, based at Kidlington. After 28 years service in the Fire Brigade he was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1991 for service to the community. When he retired Dermot became interested in local history and here began his association with the Chipping Norton Museum, his particular interest being in the vast collection of local photographs. Dermot is remembered by all his friends and colleagues as a man who loved life, always ready to talk and listen, regularly meeting up to chat about old times. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his wife Brenda and their children and grandchildren at this sad time.   Jan Cliffe
