CORNISH RD PLAY AREA STARTS TAKING SHAPE The huge and important project which the Hailcorns Residents Association have taken on is really getting off the ground now. They are converting an area of waste ground between Cornish Road and Churchill Road into a properly maintained and equipped area for the local kids to play in and enjoy - kids who up to now have had no recreational facilities close to their homes at all. The ground has been cleared. The old post and rail fencing along busy Churchill Road has now been replaced with a spanking new metal boundary fence which will keep the playground safe. An area has been fenced off specially for dog owners to keep pets and their mess out of the kids way. And some modern furniture has been installed. Keith Clandfield - Chairman of the Association - says "Shortly we will have a play unit for the young ones. There will be basket ball, football and cricket on a tarmac area. Then swings for tots and swings for older ones. A Fitness trail and more seating. All this costs money but with determination we will get there" Keith and his committee have every reason to be proud of what they have achieved so far. They have raised funds and sponsorship with terrific enthusiasm, lobbied and cajoled the Town and District Councils for their co-operation and successfully sought sponsorship from local business. St Mary's Church and the Mayor's Charity Fund have made valuable contributions. Car Boot Sales and Bingo Sessions have played a key role. But they are far from finished yet. They still need lots of volunteer help and more of your money. Gerald Forse who is the associations seecretary wrote in the Forum "We have spent a lot of effort on this scheme and have sought lots of advice. We have nearly 50,000 firmly promised or in hand - but we are still needing more". Please support the Hailcorn Residents if you can. They are doing an absolutely brilliant job. Keith will be pleased to hear from you on

Keith Clandfield sends us an update.....The erection of further units has been suspended until after Christmas, as it is too wet for any vehicles. The area fenced off as you walk into the field is for people with dogs to go and exercise and do their whoopsie doos . The animal grill is rather proud ,and hopefully we can get it rectified at a later date . We do need tenants and residents to stop using the playing field as a dumping ground for grass cuttings, furniture etc as this costs us money which we haven't got for that. We still need more tenants and residents to be involved. There's no age barrier - no discrimination whatsoever. We need more ideas for fund raising. Come to see me at 61 Cornish Road or ring day time or early evenings. It;s your children and grandchildren who will benefit so please come and help
