MEMORIES OF THE HOLLIES

Jenny Cross writes: "The Hollies" was built by my great-great grandfather in the 1800's and he also began the nurseries on the road out to Banbury.  John & Julia Cooper  moved into The Hollies in 1882. My grandmother was one of their daughters who lived there along  with her sisters : the last of whom - Kate Telfer Smith - still lived there until she died in Chippy in March 1964. Thats when The Hollies ceased being our family home.  There may of course be some people still around that would have known Kate  as I believe she was quite well known. She is pictured below in the sixties with  a representative from the Red Cross. I have of course been quite shocked to see the changes going on at The Hollies. The pictures of the house all date from the 1920s  The single story on the right was at one time a little florists & then I believe a hairdressers for a time. The other picture is of the back garden.

I would be very interested to hear any more information which people may have.
