TOWNSPERSON OF THE YEAR!
Tory District Councillor Mike Howes is our nomination. He has been operating in overdrive all this year. Like a whirlwind. His recent newsletter makes clear the scope of his activities....He writes...."I am monitoring progress on the Hospital proposals.....I am in regular contact with WODC officers responsible for housing, planning, licensing, the toilets, leisure, tourism, waste, community projects......Why not try some more recycling to see how much less you use your wheelie bin....Are you over 40 Have you had your eyes checked for glaucoma........I am in regular contact with David Cameron our MP. If you want to raise any matter with David let me know.......If you have problems with other areas that WODC are not directly responsible for let me know. For example I am in contact with Inspector Deacon......I am keen on cutting out waste but with opposing pressure from Central Government this is an uphill struggle. I will not give up though.......If I do not know the answer I usually know someone who does....aren't the Christmas lights super Many of us got soaked putting them up...." Here at www.chippingnortpn.net we have always thought of Mike as being Action Man but it is his fellow councillor Eve Coles who has recently proposed the promotion to Superman - based on the intensity and range of his recent activities. We now understand he is planning to start a website (is there no end to Mike's talents). He was recently quoted in the Banbury Guardian as saying that he thought chippingnorton.net was too "negative". He said he would approach the District Council to look at the possibility of funding a website promoting Chipping Norton. (I better just remind him that when he kindly approached them on behalf of the Guild of Commerce recently to try and get some support for the new Town Guide he got a flea in his ear from his friend Mary Neale. Woodstock get 3,000, Chippy gets nothing. Funny System! But he will be able to explain all of that to us on his new web site).
