ROTARY'S FIRST CAR SHOW

2nd July....Fifty entrants - in cars ranging from an imitation Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to a Chapman Lotus 7 - made this a really fun afternoon out. Lots to see and lots of really friendly car enthusiasts to talk to. Dave Gordon of Chipping Norton Rotary was the chief organiser. Proceeds went to Rotary Charities. The show had been busy since midday. At 2.30 there were around 100 people inspecting cars or quaffing beer in the shady bar! Dave Gordon was there with his own mini-truck and three of his mates from the Oxford Mini Owners Club exhibited their own minis. (Talk about nostalgia!) Peta and Richard Simmons were there with a Scimitar, Mike Howes and Andy Robinson were showing MGBs, Derek and Sonia Yates from Long Compton had a stunning Chevette, John Reason from Wychford had a 1931 Wolseley once owned by the Duke of Windsor, Bob and Sheila Salmon from Ascott under Wychwood were there in an old Triumph rebuilt as an MGTF and Phillip Ambrose was the lucky man with the Lotus 7(all shown below) but there were many many others. One of the exhibitors told me that this was exactly how the Churchill show had originally started and it had now grown to over 400 cars. He felt sure there was a place for a Chippy Show and thought word would get around enthusiasts quickly. It looks to me as if the Rotary have got themselves a new regular date in the events calendar. Congratulations!
