May 31st. Bill Turner waters in the annuals which complete the planting of his magnificent Millennium Garden for this year.  (Along the way he gets some advice from Maurice Knapman). We can now all enjoy the plants as they grow and bloom during the summer. The land was bought by the Town Council to mark the Millennium and Bill has planned and created the garden from what was a very scrubby eyesore. He roped in willing local builders to help with clearance and basic landscaping. Since then he has provided all the materials and plants himself. Bill and  Frank Young voluntarily look after the maintenance. He has had to put up with the Utilities digging parts of the garden up more than once. The Highways people have invaded it with bollards and signs....and they helpfully applied weedkiller around the trees and posts which has left ugly scars. The creation of the garden  has been a wonderful gesture by Bill and one that is truly appreciated by everybody. He wants to get some trellis to grow clematis against the wall. Perhaps its now time for the Town to pick up the tab for further improvements like that as well as the cost of materials to maintain the garden (the compost alone must cost a fortune!) Bill's not complaining - but it would be a nice way for the rest of us to show that we are as committed as he is to keeping his wonderful creation loved and cared for!

.....oh and just one last thing. Perhaps some people may not know where the beautiful Millennium Garden is. Well its hidden behind all this clutter. Most of it courtesy of the County Council.
